Joy's journey as a writer launched after submitting a poem to a contest ad at the end of the Sunday comics when she was eight. Over time, she discovered she could make a little money and a lot of friends while writing for Durango's beloved  paper, The Durango Telegraph, the home of all things desert, mountain, and the spaces between.
