After decades of bouncing around in her (since-passed) 4Runner, Joy Martin is now firmly rooted in Durango, Colorado. Her University of Montana degree in Rural & Environmental Change (with an emphasis in Mountain Tourism & Adventure Travel in Kyrgyzstan) provided early justification for roaming across lava flows, below northern lights, into dripping caves, out of salty seas, and through all the steamy jungles and forests between.
She's since opted for the storied landscapes of the Colorado Plateau.
Little did she know that staying put for a minute would tune her ears and eyes into a world of voices, past and present, echoing through the canyons, rivers, and mountains. A freelance writer since 2011, Joy takes great pride amplifying these voices through her work that appears in varied print and digital publications around the Four Corners region.
Joy spends as much time as possible exploring the San Juan Mountains and desert Southwest with the man of her dreams, Nick Martin, and their little radster, Jolene James Martin. Never short on inspiration or curiosity, Joy tries to harness her outrageous energy by avoiding technology and staying grounded with yoga, hot tub soaks, and the occasional microdose.
